Sourcing Manager

Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands


This is the role

Sourcing Manager leads purchasing and supply management activities for one or more categories of spend (total spend estimated at ~ €120MM per annum), with the objective to drive out costs and optimize working capital maintaining/ improving product quality and supplier service levels.  This position requires to work closely with key stakeholders in member organizations and in corporate cross functional teams to develop effective cost reduction strategies and implementation plans. Applying 4-step procurement framework to strategic categories and driving all aspect of strategic procurement efforts, the Sourcing Manager directly controls the results achieved with a strong intervention power in case of underperforming results.


In fulfilling these roles, the incumbent has the following proven capabilities:

  • Advanced negotiation skills to drive aggressive cost savings for the business
  • Strategic mind-set to identify improvement opportunities, with balance of short term and long-term interests
  • Proactive and self-motivated in recognizing needs, solving problems, anticipating issues and developing solutions.
  • Proficient communication skills, verbal and written, in English and preferably Dutch
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills


Other responsibilities include:  

  • Own knowledge of market and provide insights to commercial teams around supply, demand, and pricing trends in material markets to support decision making
  • Lead cross-functional teams and develop and implement category strategies
  • Conduct supplier selection and negotiation
  • Monitor strategy implementation and contract compliance and track performance within each spend category and define impact
  • Continuously assess opportunities internally and externally to improve costs and supplier reliability and quality
  • Maintain raw material pricing forecasts and provide input to long term and monthly financial forecast cycles
  • Represent Sourcing within the Business and Business Planning processes (IBP)
  • Capture real savings & drive best practices
  • Uphold internal and external policies, regulations and law


Education, Experience & Required Skills  

  • This role requires the ability to think strategically and execute methodically. You have a passion for reducing cost and possess exceptional negotiation, project management and problem-solving skills with a strong bias for action. The successful candidate is likely to have 8 – 10 years of successful track-record in Procurement, preferably within the Chemicals, FMGG or Automotive industry.
  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree from an internationally recognized university in combination with an MBA would be preferred for this role.
