Eastman Inc., a leading manufacturer of film interlayer products, has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer at its Trenton, MI location.  This position will work closely with the site engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.  The Mechanical Engineer will not have direct supervisory responsibility but will assist with this function when needed.  This position reports to the site’s Engineering Team Leader.



  • Provide engineering technical support during the development and evaluation of alternatives, preparation of project funding requests and economic analysis, design, construction, safety review, start-up and project documentation phases of capital projects
  • Responsible for managing small to mid-size capital and non-capital projects, including the development and monitoring of project schedules and costs using Eastman’s World Class Project Management process for both new equipment and retrofit situations.
  • Lead teams comprised of Eastman and outside contract engineers as well as manage construction activities using both Eastman plant maintenance personnel as well as outside construction contractors
  • Prepare equipment specifications and drawings and develop associated installation, check out and start-up plans
  • Provide technical support to operating and maintenance departments to support on-going plant operations as well as assist with efficiency and reliability improvements, cost reduction programs, and safety investigations 
  • Investigate, recommend, and implement new technology for continuous improvements


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role to include internship or co-op
  • Knowledgeable in PSM Mechanical Integrity
  • Experience with specification, design, operation, and maintenance of pumps, compressors, chillers, tanks, piping, etc.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment drawings
  • High degree of initiative to drive projects through from feasibility to start-up
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
  • Strong planning, organization, facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical skills and a desire to provide “attention to detail”
  • Ability to contribute individually and in a team environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role to include internship or co-op
  • Chemical plant or refinery experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of SAP and AutoCAD
  • Experience with relief device sizing, specification, and selection a plus
  • Professional Engineering License by exam a plus
