Major Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will ensure that the plant’s privilege to operate is maintained through:

  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, Local and Corporate HSES regulations, policies and procedures
  • Continuous improvement in personal ownership for process safety and environmental stewardship
  • Oversight of comprehensive process safety management (PSM) and risk management (RMP) to ensure regulatory compliance and to support a safety-oriented culture for employees and contractors
  • Interfacing regularly with facility and corporate leadership to develop and execute goals and objectives
  • Active participation in local and state-wide trade associations, safety and environmental organizations to ensure that emerging regulations which could impact the plant are reviewed and addressed
  • Improve process safety performance and reduce corporate risk by facilitating Process Hazard Analyses and Layer of Protection Analyses
  • Develop and update site Policies and Procedures
  • Develop training materials and teach classes as needed to keep site employees informed on process safety and environmental requirements
  • Support the Corporate HSES Audit Program by supporting review of site findings and evaluation of planned corrective action
  • Assist in the development, implementation and daily management of all fourteen (14) elements of the OSHA Process Safety Management standard and the additional requirements of the EPA Risk Management Plan rule (as applicable)



  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health & Safety related fields or Engineering fields
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License (or Engineer In Training [EIT] certificate) considered a plus
  • Minimum of 7 years in ESH field within a manufacturing setting, chemical and/or heavy industrial manufacturing preferred
  • Proven experience with applicable state and federal regulatory processes, current HSES practices, and other appropriate internal and external resources
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, challenge site norms and motivate others to affect positive results
  • Self-motivated, results oriented, problem solver, able to set priorities  and multi-task
  • Effective written and verbal communication to all levels of the organization and with external contacts
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory compliance standards, with emphasis on Process Safety (29 CFR 1910.119) and Risk Management (40 CFR Part 68) program elements required
  • Experience with environmental reporting is preferred
  • The individual should understand the critical triggers and timelines necessary for implementing process changes
