Fibers Analytical Development Lab has an immediate opening for a Scientist or Engineer with emphasis on analytical chemistry and physical property measurements of fibers. 


Job Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain analytical methods and measurements in control labs

• Ability to develop new test methods as needed to test the physical and chemical properties of new fiber, textile and non-woven products

• Measurement of color of dyed or pigmented Fibers

• Measurement of complex fiber and fabric lubricant and sizing formulations

• Champion development of new technologies/methods and lead the efforts to implement them

• Supervise skilled technicians in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation

• Review and write test methods and technical reports

• Coordinate and ensure completion of projects through active engagement with internal partners

• Troubleshoot the LIMS/PIMS data systems used in Tow Manufacturing and Yarn Manufacturing

• Participate on technical teams focused on corporate growth programs as well as efforts to improve quality/reliability of laboratory services


Required Education/Experience:

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physical Science, Material Science, or Engineering or equivalent science degree from an accredited college or university, OR BSc-Chem (ACS), BSc -Engineering or MS in equivalent fields with 5 years of relevant experience.


Additional Job Qualifications/Requirements:

• Focus on safety and maintain a safe lab environment

• Understanding of physical testing and chemical testing of polymers, fibers and additives

• Understanding of fiber terminology and properties and how these are tested both at Eastman and in the industry

• Understanding of experimental design and data analysis

• Understanding of instrument software and data systems and ability to modify input formats and report formats to interface to AY and Tow manufacturing data systems

• Knowledge of SPC to evaluate test capability and provide input on setting control and specification limits

• Basic knowledge of LabView and VB

• Understanding of microscopy and image analysis

• Ability to work in a team environment with Manufacturing, Quality and Fibers development

• Results orientation for problem solving and understanding of chemical fundamentals is essential

• Capable of managing short-term and long-term measurement needs while meeting key timelines where analytical data for product/process development or research and development projects are required

• Innovative and creative problem solver with strong scientific convictions and willingness to take risks

• Clear and effective written and oral communication skills
