This posting is for a Group Leader in the Analytical Support Division located in Kingsport, TN. The Group Leader will lead the Scale Up & Development Support group within this division.  This laboratory provides analytical support for new product scale up and method development for the Quality Control laboratories. The Group Leader is responsible for coaching and retaining qualified staff that contribute to division and company goals. He or she ensures the highest quality performance through feedback, training, and development of their team.  The Group Leader is also responsible for the alignment of the strategic direction of the group with that of the division and for understanding the associated business and technology strategy.  They work to communicate and execute the Technology strategy for the division and set expectations for group members. The Group Leader shall champion and drive key initiatives, critical thinking, quality, and productivity primarily within the group and secondarily within the division.

 

Job Duties:

• Maintain an effective safety and wellness culture including driving auditing, training and general awareness.  Lead by example through active participation in department Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSES) programs.

• Coach and develop direct reports by (a) ensuring each direct report understands their alignment with the business and their impact on short and long term financial success; (b) utilizing the performance management process; (c) expect and reward exceptional performance; and (d) utilizing the disciplinary process when appropriate.

• Know their direct reports’ strengths, development needs and career interests.

• Understand the technology, business and asset strategies, and create and implement a vision for the group to support it.  This includes support for new products, crisis resolution, and process and productivity improvements.

• Lead the establishment of effective cross-functional, inter-group, and inter-divisional relationships

• Define clear, prioritized workplans for team member in accordance with company needs, and monitor progress of the plans

• Execute technology strategy to support functional partners; identify and execute initiatives, provide input into division long-term strategy

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

• BS or higher degree in Chemistry from an accredited college or university is required. A PhD in Analytical or Organic Chemistry preferred

• Minimum 5 years of industrial experience is required

• Previous Group Leader and/or Top Project leadership is required

• Prior industrial experience with analytical measurement including a strong background in the principles of analytical measurement science is preferred

• Working knowledge of Quality Control laboratory operations is a pl

• Ability to understand and guide work within a matrix-enabled organization

• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to communicate the right level of detail to the right audience, at the right time

• Self-starter, driven by the investigation, discovery, and implementation of new technologies and meeting customer needs

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, make assignments, and ensure execution in a high activity environment
