This posting is for a Tire Additives Global Quality Manager in the AFP Division of Eastman Chemical Company. Eastman’s Tire Additives business is a significant and industry leading supplier of high quality process enabling and performance enhancing chemical additives, manufactured in a global network of 13 manufacturing sites. This role will ideally be located at Eastman’s HQ in Kingsport, TN but could alternatively be located at one of Eastman’s other NA locations. The role will involve ~20% travel, including some overseas travel. The selected individual for this position will be responsible for the following :
 

  • Ensuring the current ISO 9001 Quality Assurance processes, procedures and capabilities are consistent with current and emerging global tire industry needs and Eastman’s position as the industry leader with a major, blue-chip brand owner customer base.

 

  • Leading the development of a Quality Culture by providing on-site support and training to the local, manufacturing site based Quality Managers in identifying and eliminating vulnerabilities, establishing a community of best practices, standardizing processes and enhancing proactivity.

     

  • Leading the development and implementation of effective and efficient quality systems for managing and enhancing Quality throughout the manufacturing - order fulfillment - product use chain in collaboration with Eastman’s Global Supply Chain, Eastman Corporate Global Quality, Eastman Procurement & AMS and Tire Additives Technology functions

 

  • Support Eastman Sales, Marketing and Technical Service teams as needed with face to face customer visits to address Quality topics and to ensure that the voice of the customer is heard regarding current and future industry, market and customer expectations with respect to Quality.

     

  • Provide on-site support prior to and during customer quality audits at manufacturing locations, balancing information sharing with protection of company confidential information. 

     

  • Conducting gap analyses of current capabilites to the IATF 16949 standard and devise and lead an execution plan to successful implementation.

     

  • Lead monthly customer Quality review meeting with the Business Leadership Team, analyzing Quality statistics, current issues, key initiatives, progress reports and gap closing measures needed.

     

  • Overseeing the review and timely response to customer specification requests and customer Quality Agreements ensuring balance between the desire to meet customer needs with Eastman capabilities

     

     

     

  • Overseeing the management of finished product and custom specifications, analytical methods and ensure consistant quality related practices among manufacturing sites.  Champion specification and method harmonization between manufacturing sites considering production and commercial needs.

     

  • Reviewing, adjusting and approving the resolution of customer complaints between Sales, Technical Service, Technology and Manufacturing organizations, ensuring timely and appropriate responses to customers are made and effective implementation of corrective actions is achieved to avoid re-occurrences by appropriately addressing root causes.

 

  • Work in multidisciplinary (technology, business, manufacturing, engineering) teams to provide an effective tire additives quality system consulting in regards to emerging customer needs, inquiries and support efforts to develop and launch new products for the Tire Industry.

 

  • Support the Product Management Team in preparing documents to inform customers and internal stakeholders of changes in product, packaging, procedures, or other changes as needed.

     

    Qualifications

     

    To accomplish the above objectives, the desired candidate should possess the following qualifications and experienceM:

     

  • Education:
    • Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Chemical or other Engineering discipline, or other relevant field from an accredited college or university.
    • An ASQ Quality Certification is considered a plus
    • Six Sigma qulaification would be considered a plus.

       

  • Required Experience:
    • A minimum of 3 years of practical work experience as Quality Manager
    • Experience managing ISO certified quality systems
    • Experience of the automotive industry value chain and transportation industry quality requirements
    • Experience addressing internal, customer, and supplier issues
    • A demonstrated track record of driving continual improvement in Quality systems and results
    • Excellent communication and people skills and the ability to tactfully interact with internal and external customers

       

  • Preferred Experience:
    • Knowledge of experimental design and statistical methods of data processing.
    • Knowledge of +ISO 9001, IATF 16949, Statistics, SPC
    • Knowledge of the processes and analytical chemistry of rubber chemicals
    • Knowledge of end-use function and performance of rubber chemicals.
