This position is part of the Saflex® team. You will be joining a high caliber technical team as a critical member in our Automotive Interlayers Application Development Group located in Ghent, Belgium.

Job Description: 

Our ideal candidate should have a background in rheology, mechanical engineering, acoustic engineering, materials science, or other closely related field. We expect this candidate to have experience in computer modeling utilizing FEM and other methods. A background in mechanical damping applied to acoustic performance of polymeric materials and films is preferred. The candidate will also be involved in development of test methods to determine performance criteria in sound attenuation and noise reduction. We are seeking a candidate with interest in hands-on laboratory experience to close the gap between theory and practice leading to real-world innovations. The successful candidate should exhibit a willingness to learn new disciplines and an ability to contribute to business-critical innovations.

Direct Responsibilities:

•    Modeling and screening of polymer materials, films, and interlayers for transportation acoustic applications.
•    Effective utilization of acoustic modeling to guide and drive product design.
•    Development of test methods and equipment to assess critical performance properties such as mechanical dampening, sound transmission loss (STL), and other vibro-mechanical requirements specific to application.
•    Engage across the organizations and collaborate with other research and application functions and business units to identify key unmet needs of targeted customers.
•    Translate the identified needs into well-defined technical criteria for planning and execution of scientific projects.
•    Development and contribution to meeting project deliverables, individually and in team settings.
•    Communication of results through effective written documentation and oral presentations.


•    PhD in Rheology, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or other relevant field of study. All career levels will be considered for this role.
•    Expertise in mechanical modeling and simulation. 
•    Expertise in rheology is also desired.
•    Broad background in structure/property relationships.
•    Knowledge of acoustic performance in the automotive industry or laminated glass applications is preferred. 
•    Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
•    High level of initiative, with ability to work individually and in teams.
•    Experience with experimental design, data analysis and statistical tools.
