Eastman Specialties Corporation, a global, medium-sized manufacturer of performance chemicals has an excellent opportunity for a PM Maintenance Mechanic to work in our Chestertown, Maryland manufacturing plant.

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Works under general supervision.  As assigned by supervision, works primarily within one of the following specialized skills but will be required to perform some of the lesser work involved in any of the other skills and some work of a lower classification not defined as skill work.  Participates in Team meetings and activities.  As required, performs work both indoors and outdoors in hot and cold temperature extremes.

 

JOB DUTIES

 

  1. Dismantles, repairs, makes adjustments to, overhauls, erects, installs, assembles, fabricates, and services mechanical, electrical, and service and process piping equipment throughout the plant.
  2. Detects faulty equipment by inspection, testing, or general knowledge of the work.
  3. Performs troubleshooting work to forestall breakdowns that could curtail production or cause dangerous or unsafe conditions to exist.
  4. Performs high level of PM work to ensure that all critical equipment items are fully operational.
  5. Works from blueprints, written specifications, sketches, and oral instructions.
  6. Makes repairs using reference material and prior experience without specific instruction.
  7. Utilizes "state of the art" testing and measurement equipment.
  8. Uses available tools and equipment to lift and/or transport heavy loads.
  9. Observes maintenance procedures and keeps all tools in good working condition.
  10. Uses computers to order parts, plan and schedule work, record equipment history, and retrieve information.
  11. Performs work at elevated locations and in confined spaces.
  12. Communicates effectively in order to perform essential functions of the job.
  13. Follows written and/or verbal instructions.
  14. Follows all Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements and other safety procedures outlined in the Safe Practice Manual and Emergency Plan, including evacuation if appropriate.
  15. Follows good housekeeping practices, including correcting or reporting to supervision immediately any unsafe conditions or practices.
  16. Uses all safety equipment as designated, including but not limited to safety glasses, safety hats, and hearing protection.
  17. Works with and/or directs the work of a small number of other employees as required.
  18. Makes simple sketches for self and/or shop use.
  19. Performs other related duties as designated by supervision.

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • 2-year Electromechanical Degree or equivalent is preferred
  • License or Certification in any of the following areas would be a plus: - BAT Mechanical Apprenticeship
  • Welding
  • Millwright
  • Electrician
  • Mechanic

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must pass background check, physical and drug screen

 

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of Maintenance experience working in an industrial, military, construction or other technical environment is preferred
  • A working knowledge of the following is preferred: - Handling hazardous materials
  • Completing a lock-out/tag-out process
  • Laser alignment
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Experience with the following is preferred:
    • Rebuilding pumps and motors
    • Reading blueprints
    • Precision measuring
    • Mig, Tig, Stick Welding
    • Auto Mechanics
  • Familiarity with basic computer functions such as creating, sending/receiving e-mail and data entry using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word is preferred
  • Must be able to perform the essential elements of the positions with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must follow all safety procedures
  • Must wear company-provided personal protective equipment: safety shoes, glasses with side shields and hard hats at all times in designated areas.
  • Dust mask, rubber gloves, face shields, and other protective equipment must be worn when required
  • If required, must work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. Overtime is required from time to time.
  • Have a strong work ethic, demonstrating both initiative and professional attitude.
  • Must have clear, concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to apply mechanical fundamentals to properly operate/maintain the performance of the equipment within area of responsibility
