Operations and Reliability Engineer


Major responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management of manufacturing operations at the Canoga Park, CA site to meet volume, cost, quality and HSES objectives.
  • Ensure that our operations are safe for our employees, site contractors, guests, communities, and the environment and that the manufacturing operations are run in accordance with all federal, state and local requirements.
  • Ensure essential operating disciplines are in place and are followed to insure safe and efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Develop manufacturing strategic plans and oversee tactical execution to insure manufacturing capabilities to meet future business needs.
  • Interface and coordinate cross functionally (supply chain, quality control, engineering, maintenance and engineering, etc.) to insure production objectives are defined, understood, and achieved.
  • Support the delivery of all products and services that are delivered to our customers in a cost effective and timely manner.  Also, support the entire transportation and distribution process to ensure that it complies with all Eastman and government regulations.
  • Support the development of a highly capable, well trained workforce through coaching and mentoring of wage employees. Optimize the overall team performance by establishing excellent relationships within and between departments.
  • Ensure that all business process transactions are conducted in an ethical and timely manner consistent with both Eastman and other regulatory requirements.
  • Support the development and assist in implementing and supporting an overall succession plan to ensure the long-term stability of the Canoga Park site.
  • Oversee plant maintenance activities including oversight of preventative maintenance, total productive maintenance and breakdown maintenance.  Responsibilities include directing both internal and external resources outside to ensure all assets are properly maintained, critical spares are properly identified, and inventory maintained, and life cycle equipment planning is appropriately considered and implemented.
  • Ensure departments operate safely and in an environmentally-responsible manner including high standard for housekeeping; Maintain and implement corporate and regulatory environmental, safety and health compliances.
  • Develop and lead employee team through positive employee relations, staff training and development and conflict resolution. 
  • Ensure customer service requirements are satisfied by operating at budgeted capacity or beyond with superior quality.
  • Establish and implement operating priorities and short/long term production plans in conjunction with business operation planners and support teams.
  • Ensure timely scheduling and completion of equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, capital improvements, etc. while minimizing downtime.
  • Interact with SAP as needed for RM ordering, production scheduling, wage time entry, bulk transportation planning and cost monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot operational and quality issues.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems.


Required Experience and Skills:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university/college preferred.
  • Management experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, SAP).
  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively with people at all levels, including good oral and written communication skills.  Media training is a plus.
  • Excellent technical skills and effective analytical and troubleshooting/problem-solving skills. Must possess the ability to make quick and effective decisions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and results-orientation through focus on achieving the cost, production and other strategic targets of the business.
  • Prior project management and maintenance experience highly desired.
  • Prior SAP experience highly desired.
  • Knowledge of and experience in vacuum coating or semi-conductor industry would be plus.
